The Journey from Stress to Serenity - Deep Relaxation and Restful Sleep
with Linda Davis, March 27, 2010

“I am alarmed when it happens that I have walked a mile into the woods bodily, without getting there in spirit…..The thought of some work will run in my head, and I am not where my body is; I am out of my senses…What business have I in the woods, if I am thinking of something out of the woods.”

                                                                                                                             …Henry David Thoreau

How can we meet the challenges in our lives without creating more stress and tension? How can we avoid falling into hurtful patterns based on worry and fear? How can we rest and replenish ourselves and have mind and body in the present moment – in the same place at the same time?

By mindfully meeting each moment with an open heart and mind and by learning skills and practicing techniques for relaxation and opening to the present moment, we can find inner calm and happiness in the midst of life’s ups and downs.

Few people realize that how we breathe, what we eat, how (and when) we exercise and how we think dramatically affect our health and well-being.

During this retreat, we’ll slow down and open into the “now” by:

  • Practicing sitting and walking meditation
  • Exploring breath awareness with “Breathing Lessons for Relaxation”
  • Learning about relaxing food choices
  • Enjoying a deep Relaxation Session
  • Designing a Yoga/Stretch practice to calm the nervous system in order to sleep more deeply
  • Creating a healthy rhythm in our daily life
  • Using Guided Imagery and Self-Hypnosis to move to inner peace

Our Saturday will begin at 10:30 with the morning session ending at 1:00 for a delicious lunch. If the weather permits, we’ll plan an optional mindful walk around Unicoi Lake after lunch or simply relax (or schedule a spa service) until 3:00. We’ll meet again from 3 until dinner at 6.  Your evening will be free.
After a restful night’s sleep at the Inn, you’ll enjoy a nice breakfast on Sunday and have time for spa services and/or to enjoy the many delights of the Sautee and Nacoochee Valleys.

Linda L. Davis, msw, will guide your retreat. For her bio, please look under “wellness” or “about us” tabs at mandalaretreat.com.

Tuition for the program, meals and a night in a standard room at the Inn is: $270.00 with a $50 deposit. The Commuter Option is $130 with a $20 deposit.

Deposits are refundable up until a week before the retreat.

Daily practice improves overall health and longevity and increases fortitude, strength and balance while reducing stress and promoting peace of mind.

No matter what your health or fitness goals, qigong can help you achieve them in a balanced, gentle way. People of all ages will benefit. The exercises take very little time, are low impact, fun, and easy to learn.
